Ke$ha Is Channeling 'Sexiness' Of '70s Rock For New Album
Glitter-heavy pop star tells MTV News she's going for 'balls-out, irreverent rock and roll.'

Ke$ha's already got the face paint down pat, and, during recent live sets, she's even taken to guzzling blood out of a human heart, so it should come as no surprise that, on her upcoming album, the pop star is taking things back to the most theatrical era of rock: the prop-heavy, arena-spanning heyday of the 1970s.
Ke$h revealed her plans over the weekend in Los Angeles, on the red carpet of KIIS FM's annual Wango Tango concert, where she told MTV News that the follow-up to her breakout Animal album (and, we suppose, Cannibal too) would be heavy on hard riffs and light on pretty much everything else.
"The next album ... I've been working on writing on the road, but as far as a sound, I just know it's gonna be balls-out, irreverent rock and roll," she said. "I've been pretty much in this '70s rock and roll kick and I just want to capture some of the true essence of what rock and roll is, and that's just irreverence and sexiness and fun and not giving a f---, so we'll definitely put a bit of rock and roll in it."
So, does that mean that fans can expect the likes of Alice Cooper or Peter Frampton to show up on her new album? Perhaps. Because while Ke$ha's new album is still a ways off, she's already begun calling in favors, hoping to line up a killer collabo for the new disc.
"I'm trying, trust me," she laughed. "I really would love to connect with one of my idols, I mean, that's my dream. I'm working on it."

Justin Bieber Tops List Of Richest Teen Entertainers
People magazine reports Bieber made $53 million last year, followed by Miley Cyrus, Taylor Lautner and others.

Justin Bieber had a very good year. Seriously, like a major one that rivals most corporate CEOs'. According to a People magazine ranking of the top-earning teen actors and musicians, Bieber, 17, raked in $53 million in 2010.
Most of that cash came from his smash movie, "Never Say Never," and his hit fragrance, "Someday." (By contrast, girlfriend Selena Gomez made $5.5 million.) Bieber reached that big-baller level thanks to the record-breaking returns from "Never," which is the most successful concert-themed film in U.S. history, with more than $73 million earned to date.
Nipping at his heels was veteran teen starlet Miley Cyrus, whose haul was $48 million, almost all of it earned from touring.
Other big earners on the list include "Twilight" top wolf Taylor Lautner, who earned $8.5 million for the final two installments of the movie series, as well as $7.5 million for his upcoming starring debut in the action thriller "Abduction."
Nick Jonas had a very good year as well, with totals around $12.5 million, while "Two and a Half Men" star Angus T. Jones banked $7.8 million, thanks to a $300,000 per episode payday.
Jaden and Willow Smith made the list, with Jaden earning $5 million last year, $3 million of it from his starring role in "The Karate Kid," while sister Willow's music career rang up $4 million.
Acting sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning also did pretty well, with Dakota, 17, getting $4 million for "Breaking Dawn" and Elle, 13, taking home $1.5 million for "Super 8."

Rose McGowan: I Escaped a Cult
Rose McGowan may be living a charmed life now, but her childhood was anything but lucky.
The actress, who starred in the TV series Charmed from 2001-2006, says she was raised by her parents in a Children of God sect that promoted polygamy and sex at an early age, according to this week's People (via Yahoo!).
She calls the group, which also banned newspapers and televisions to keep members in the dark about world events, a cult from which she escaped. "You were kept in the dark so you would obey," she says.
McGowan, 37, was born in Florence, Italy, and raised in the commune, where members focused on the second coming of Jesus Christ. The group is currently known by the name the Family International, and now prohibits sexual contact between adults and children.
McGowan describes her time with the group as pretty terrifying. "You weren't allowed to have imperfections," she explains, recalling one particularly harrowing incident. "I had a little wart on my thumb, and I remember walking down this hallway -- a door opened and some adult grabbed me and just cut it off with a razor blade and stuck me back out in the hallway with it still bleeding."
And, according to Rose, that incident is indicative of the way the male cult members treated the females. "At a very early age I decided I did not want to be like those women," McGowan recalls. "They were basically there to serve the men sexually -- you were allowed to have more than one wife."
When McGowan was 9, her father took Rose and her siblings and fled the cult, fearing his children might be sexually abused. According to McGowan, they escaping by running through a cornfield during a thunder and lightning storm, and even hid for a while in a stone house -- while a pursuer tried to break in with a hammer. (Sounds like something out of a horror movie!)
After escaping the cult, McGowan's father relocated his family to the United States. At age 13, McGowan ran away from home and was taken in by drag queens in Portland, Ore. But she has since mended fences with her family. McGowan says she grew close with her father, who died in 2008, after he was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. And she's tight with her siblings, who she describes as "the most together, offbeat, funny, regular-ish people."
Justifiably proud of surviving what sounds like a harrowing upbringing, McGowan has moved on to become a successful actress, starring in films such as Scream, Grindhouse and this summer's Conan the Barbarian. While McGowan's future looks a lot brighter than her past, she knows things could have gone the other way.
"As strong as I like to think I've always been, I'm sure I could have been broken," she says. "I know I got out by the skin of my teeth."
As for the Family International, they've released a statement to OnTheRedCarpet.com, questioning the veracity of McGowan's statements. "Rose McGowan's stories are suspect at best and at times absurd, seemingly based on wild speculations and imperfect childhood memories, crafted for the sake of sensational publicity," the statement reads. "The usage of the label 'cult' in reference to the Family International (TFI) by the media is pejorative and discriminatory."

Hurricane Irene Forces NYC Concert Cancellations

New Yorkers: Trade your earplugs for some frozen dinners and a couple seasons of your favorite TV show on DVD, because chances are the concert you bought tickets to this weekend has been canceled.
With Hurricane Irene tearing her way up the East Coast, many bands and venues that had shows planned in areas likely to be hit by the bad weather conditions are either rescheduling or canceling the gigs in anticipation of the storm. Forecasts are predicting the hurricane will affect states including South Carolina and Virginia and on all the way up to the eastern coast of Canada through Monday.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared a state of emergency, and the city's transit system will be completely suspended beginning at noon on Saturday, which is having a direct impact on previously scheduled NYC concerts. A spokesperson for the Bowery Presents confirmed to MTV News that the Dave Matthews Band Caravan events at Governors Island on Saturday and Sunday have been postponed. New dates have not been announced, but ticketholders are being encouraged to attend the event on Friday (August 26) instead.
Of course, it's also unclear whether bands that were set to play alongside DMB at this weekend's concerts will be around to perform at a later date. The Roots were supposed to perform Saturday, and Gogol Bordello were slated to perform Sunday.
The Afro-Punk Fest was also a casualty of Governor Cuomo rescinding all event permits for the weekend. "The Afro-Punk festival has been barred from holding any public assembly in Commodore Barry Park this weekend. Afro-Punk staff have been meeting with officials and sponsors to try and avoid cancellation but have had to cancel this weekend's festival due to safety concerns," the festival planners said in a statement. "The event organizers are regrouping to plan the next steps and will keep the public updated."
Himanshu Suri of Das Racist, who was to perform at the festival, apologized to his fans over Twitter and said he might fly out to St. Louis early to avoid missing that gig as well. Fellow Afro-Punk performer Chaz Bundick of Toro Y Moi similarly apologized in a tweet.
Fans planning to see ZZ Top perform in Westbury, New York, on Sunday are in luck, because the show has only been delayed until Monday, August 29, Pollstar is reporting. But fans that can't make the new date will be refunded; the same goes for ticketholders who planned to attend Saturday's now-canceled Bill Medley with Paul Revere & the Raiders concert.
The last of the free Central Park Summerstage shows this season, set for Sunday, has been rescheduled. Jagged Edge, Avant and Melanie Fiona will perform on September 21 instead, according to Brooklyn Vegan.
On Thursday, the Museum of Modern Art's PS1 announced on Twitter that their Saturday night Warm Up outdoor music series would go on in spite of the forecast. But on Friday afternoon, they tweeted a follow-up, saying, "Sadly, we have to cancel."
At press time, many Broadway shows were set to go on, though Entertainment Weekly reported that all Saturday and Sunday performances of "The Lion King" and "Mary Poppins" have been canceled.
Many events are being canceled and rescheduled outside of the New York area, as well. Journey's concert at Jiffy Lube Live on Sunday has been postponed to September 4, MTV News confirmed with a Live Nation spokesperson. As a result of the date change, Foreigner will be unavailable to perform on the new date. (All tickets will be honored on the new date.) Unfortunately, fans planning to attend Saturday's Silopanna Music Festival in Crownsville, Maryland, are out of luck, because the festival has been canceled and won't be rescheduled, according to Pollstar. (Refunds are being issued at points of purchase.)
Kenny Chesney's Sunday concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, has been moved up to Friday (August 26), the country singer announced on his website.
The Boston Herald is reporting that Sunday's Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival show at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, has been moved back two days to August 30. And the Essex Music Festival in Essex, Massachusetts, has been rescheduled to September 3, The Gloucester Times said.

Redmond O'Neal Headed Back to Rehab, Not Prison
Sounds like the judge has some sympathy for Redmond O'Neal. The son of actor Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett, O'Neal, 26, faced jail time after being arrested earlier this month for possession of heroin and a firearm -- but on Wednesday, O'Neal was instead sentenced to a year in rehab.
"We are pleased and grateful that the judge gave Redmond further treatment rather than incarceration," O'Neal's attorneys told People. "His history of addiction warrants this approach."
In order to strike a plea deal, O'Neal -- who has a history of drug-related legal problems -- pleaded no contest to the charges of drug and gun possession.
After Redmond's previous court hearing, father Ryan told the press that Redmond hadn't been the same since his mother Farrah's death in 2009. "He never recovered from the loss of his mother," said the 70-year-old Love Story actor. "That's the part that hurts the most. He doesn't know how to resolve it for himself, so he gets in trouble."
Redmond had been held without bail until Wednesday's hearing, and will now spend a year in inpatient treatment, plus five years' probation. His arrest, as the judge put it, is "part of an ongoing pattern." In 2009, the year of that his mother died, O'Neal was incarcerated for probation violation stemming from an earlier drug arrest. In 2010, he graduated from an intense court-ordered drug rehabilitation program, after which he declared his intention "to move forward with my life, clean and sober." But with or without the media spotlight, the road to sobriety can be challenging.
"He's an addict," half-sister Tatum O'Neal, who's had her own struggles with drugs, told reporters earlier this month. "Addicts keep using until they want to stop. We're praying for him every day."

Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries' Italian Date Night!
Continuing along with their short and sweet honeymoon, Kim Kardashian joined new husband Kris Humphries for their first dinner away from their hotel in Naples, Italy on Thursday night (August 25).
While the E! babe was dolled up in a lovely dress, her NBA player hubby chose to dress down in shorts and a baseball hat as the newlyweds ate the the famous Eolo restaurant in the downtown area.
Once finished with their delectable meals, the couple leisurely walked the city streets before catching a lift back to their luxury hotel.
Meanwhile, the European getaway will soon be drawing to an end - as Kim is set to head to New York to begin filming season two of "Kourtney & Kim Take New York" while also scheduled to appear at Sunday night's (August 28) MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Planning to jet off for a much lengthier (and tropical) honeymoon at a future date, Kim told People magazine, ?We want to take our big honeymoon later."

Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her 'Crazy' Led Zeppelin Covers
'I've listened to their music since I was a child,' says the R&B diva, who recorded 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love.'

You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.
In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven," working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.
But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine.
"I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' — it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun."
Blige also said she recorded another new song — a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" — for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.
"I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.
